The CTIAG learns, advises and challenges the region’s Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) around all aspects of the “four Ps” of countering terrorism – Prevent, Protect, Prepare and Pursue.
It’s a sad fact that threats to our local and national communities and infrastructure – buildings, utilities (gas, electricity, etc), administrative sites, businesses and venues – are increasing. These threats can be individuals, organised groups or ‘state actors’ – other countries – who want to disrupt our daily lives.
The CTIAG focuses on helping to identify risks and prevent radicalisation and extremist ideologies spreading in our communities.
To do this, the CTIAG covers issues such as:
- terrorism laws and thresholds
- understanding ideologies that can lead to extremism and radicalisation
- media and social media messaging and reporting of terrorist incidents
- community protection and training
- preparing for, and recovering from, a terrorist incident
- effective communication and training for communities, businesses, venues, etc
- relationships between the CTU and Avon and Somerset Police
Find out more about the topics discussed by viewing notes and agendas from recent Counter Terrorism IAG meetings.
