Somerset East IAG (SEIAG)

The Independent Advisory Group (IAG) for East Somerset is a dedicated team of volunteers who work alongside Avon and Somerset Police to help resolve issues that matter to people, communities, and businesses in the local area.

Covering the areas of South Somerset and Mendip, the SEIAG volunteers work alongside their local and regional police teams to address issues and improve policing for people, communities and businesses in Somerset East.

Aims of the SEIAG

We work hard to make sure people who live, work and spend time in Somerset East have a say in policing activities.

We do this by:

  • attending quarterly meetings to discuss topical police issues, understanding and challenging data and reviewing upcoming campaigns
  • taking part in training and force activities and providing feedback to officers and staff
  • engaging in police-led community events to build a bridge between our communities and the police
  • being a point of contact during large-scale investigations or incidents to share relevant information and messages with appropriate contacts and community members

Why our work is important

Marilyn Selwood SEIAG

Marilyn Selwood, Chair of the Somerset East IAG, shares why she feels IAGs are important:

“As Chair of this dedicated team, I am honoured to work alongside an amazing group of volunteers from such diverse backgrounds. Our IAG members are committed to using their wealth of knowledge and experience to enhance community relations and improve policing services in our area. Their involvement really does make a difference.

Our mission is to build trust and foster positive relationships between the police and the communities they serve that we live and work in.

Together, we strive to make a meaningful impact and create a safer, more inclusive community for everyone.”

Interested in joining an IAG?

We would like to hear from anyone living in the Somerset East area who wants to improve community relations with the police and work together to improve public confidence, trust and safety in our area. All backgrounds and life experiences are welcome, no experience in policing is needed.
